Bahamut Lagoon Promo Video

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 | Games, Videos

I ran across this just now. It’s a shame Bahamut Lagoon never got an official translation back in the 90s. Square’s games back then had such a great feel to them. Their remakes and stuff nowadays feel so lifeless though. If I ever get the time, it’d be nice to go back and make a new version of the Bahamut Lagoon patch I worked on. I’m pretty sure I’m a much better translator and writer after 6 or 7 years of professional work. I haven’t even really played the game since the patch was released, too.

Anyway, this is a Square promotional video for Bahamut Lagoon (and Gun Hazard in the second half). Nothing special, but back then, I probably would’ve been like, “Damn that looks awesome” had it been shown outside of Japan.

Gah! For some reason my brain didn’t connect that you did the Bahamut Lagoon translation as well as the Nother stuff. Awesome - I loved that patch.

I was wondering if I could get an e-mail contact for you as I’d like to try and set up an interview. I’m probably being dumb but I can’t kind an address anywhere on the site. Could you drop me a line when you get a moment pls?

Thanks,

Simon

Best way to get in contact is tomato@starmen.net, but I’m also pretty bad at keeping up with my e-mail. My email inbox has become a monster.

I agree with state of Official Square-enix translations are awful. Take Dragon Quest Frizz instead of Blaze WTF is up with that… I don’t care if it is more loyal to the original translation, that is just plain stupid.

I always thought Gun Hazard was awesome.
On that note, looking at the Bahamut Lagoon sprites– I can tell it’s before Rudra no Hihou, eh? Yeah, 2 months before, GameFAQs said.

I keep forgetting how impressive Square’s un-Americanized games were.

I've heard all sorts of stuff about this. It sounds very handy, especially since all the NESs I come across are super broken these days.
